Homemade Caesar Dressing: Classic Recipe and Quick Mayo-Based Alternative

Caesar dressing is a staple for Caesar salads and has a deliciously tangy, savory flavor that complements the fresh crunch of Romaine lettuce. Making your own homemade Caesar dressing not only enhances the taste of your salad but also allows you to control the ingredients and customize it to your liking. Once you try this recipe, we guarantee you'll never buy off-the-shelf Caesar dressing again. In this article, I present a quick alternative using store-bought mayonnaise for lazy and more importantly untalented home cooks.

Ingredients:

  • 1 large garlic clove, minced
  • 1 tablespoon anchovy paste
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice (about 1 medium lemon)
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste

Instructions:

  1. In a medium-sized mixing bowl, combine the minced garlic, minced anchovies or anchovy paste, mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, and Worcestershire sauce. Mix well until smooth and well combined.
  2. Add the fresh lemon juice to the mixture, and mix until fully incorporated. Taste the dressing, and adjust the amount of lemon juice if desired. The lemon juice should provide a bright, tangy flavor without overpowering the other ingredients.
  3. Stir in the grated Parmesan cheese, and season the dressing with salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste.
  4. Use the dressing immediately, or store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. It's best to let the dressing sit at room temperature for about 10-15 minutes before using if it has been refrigerated, as this will help it regain its creamy consistency.
