How to Eat a Rock Crab

Steps:

  1. Remove the Legs and Claws: After the crab has been cooked and cooled enough to handle, start by twisting off the legs and claws.
  2. Crack the Claws and Legs: Use a nutcracker or a small hammer to crack the shell of the claws and legs. Be careful not to shatter the shell into small pieces. You want to extract large pieces of crab meat.
  3. Remove the Meat: Use a crab fork or pick to remove the meat from the legs and claws.
  4. Open the Body: Hold the body of the crab with both hands and pull apart to open it. You can remove and discard the "dead man's fingers" (also called gills) and the stomach (located in the center and shaped like a small sac).
  5. Enjoy the Body Meat: The body of the crab is filled with delicious meat. Use a crab pick to dig out the meat from the crevices. The crab meat can be enjoyed on its own or dipped in the Lemon Cayenne Butter Sauce.
